Acer is reportedly releasing a new, updated version of its Iconia W3 Windows tablet, despite the fact that the original was only released in June.

The newer version of the Windows tablet is to be released in September, and has been confirmed to be thinner and lighter than its predecessor.  In terms of spec, there’s also a rumour that it could come with an updated IPS display, to replace the TN display it originally had.  This would give it a much better colour vibrancy, but it’s not been confirmed that it will have this feature yet.

This new announcement is potentially good news for people who had been on the fence about the Iconia W3, as it’s definitely a good 8-inch tablet, but there’s no denying it has its issues.  Now that they’ve been ironed out, maybe more people will be swayed to get themselves one.  Obviously, if you’ve already rushed out and bought the Iconia W3, you might be disappointed that a newer version is coming out so soon.

However, it might be a chance to get yourself a bargain, if you’re willing to buy the original version of the Windows tablet.  Some retailers are already cutting the price of the Iconia W3, not wanting to be stuck with outdated stock when the new one hits the shelves in September.  If you’re not worried about not always having the newest model of your devices, you could pick yourself up a good little tablet, for a great price.

So, does this news make you want to get the newest Iconia W3, with all its improved features?  Or will you save some money by getting the previous version?  Intel’s releasing its newest processing chips in October, so we’re likely to see several smaller Windows 8 tablets coming out after that.  Maybe it’s best to hold off on any decision until after that, to see which offers the best spec for the best value.
